Preparation
Moving & Storage Prep
A rug rolled dirty and sealed for six months comes out smelling like a basement.
Method
How it is done
Preparation means washing first, drying completely, then rolling — never folding — around a core, pile side in, wrapped in a breathable material rather than plastic sheeting. Plastic traps whatever moisture is left in the foundation and holds it against the wool for the whole storage period.
Why It Matters
What happens if it waits
Soil left in a rug is a food source, and a sealed roll in a warm space is exactly the environment that turns a food source into an infestation. The damage happens quietly, in the dark, over months.
Tell-tale sign: Any rug about to go into storage, a moving truck, or an attic.
