The Jones Valley problem
Irrigation turns clay into slurry. Sprinklers running onto a lawn over clay subsoil produce a fine mud that never fully drains, and it comes in on paws and shoes through the sliding door in liquid form. Wet clay wicks into the foundation rather than sitting on the pile, then dries hard inside the weave. A rug carrying it can look only lightly soiled and still turn wash water orange for the first several minutes.
